Abstract

This comparative analysis provides a comprehensive examination of educational practices in Malaysia and Pakistan, focusing specifically on the intersecting influences of decolonization, Islamic heritage, and the pressures of globalization. Despite their distinct historical trajectories, both nations share a common foundation rooted in their British colonial pasts and significant Islamic cultural influences. These shared elements have served as the primary architects of their modern educational policies and curricula, creating a framework where tradition and modernization must constantly negotiate. Malaysia’s approach is characterized by an inclusive multiculturalism, whereas Pakistan places a heavier emphasis on a unified national identity. These divergent paths highlight their unique responses to the decolonization process. This study delves into how these diverse influences permeate teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and policy implementation across both borders. Furthermore, the analysis emphasizes a shared contemporary shift toward student-centered approaches. By moving away from rote learning, both systems aim to foster essential skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and complex problem-solving to meet the rigorous demands of a globalized world. Ultimately, this comparative study illustrates the profound extent to which historical and cultural contexts continue to influence and shape the evolution of educational methods and systemic structures in the 21st century.
